The Death By Syringe - Euthanasia
MY ULTIMATE AIM IS TO MAKE EUTHANASIA A POSITIVE
EXPERIENCE...

Many of you might be wondering what exactly “Euthanasia”
is...
Euthanasia
is the practice of intentionally ending a life to end the pain and suffering
faced by one. There are various laws regarding euthanasia in different other
countries. Basically, there are around 4 types of euthanasia, (active, passive,
indirect, and physician-assisted euthanasia.)
Nevertheless, a major development took place in the
year 2018 in India, when the Indian government took the step of legalizing
passive euthanasia partially. It is still a controversial topic, but however, the other 3 types of euthanasia are still kept away from the screen as of now.
Now, what do you think passive euthanasia is?
Passive euthanasia is when a team of doctors
intentionally let a patient die by withholding the artificial life support
system such as a ventilator or a feeding tube with the consent of the family
members
Aruna Shaunbag can be taken as an example
of passive euthanasia.
Going back in time… Aruna Shaunbag was an
Indian nurse who was the center of attraction in the court for 42 long years.
She was changing her dress when the floor warden sexually assaulted her. This incident
put her in a coma for 42 years and was hanging on a rope between life and death. The
court also accepted the petition for mercy killing regarding the case of Aruna
Shanbaug. She had also contracted
pneumonia in her later stages. However, she died in the year 2015, when the
doctors gave up on her life expectancy and cut her artificial life support
system.
The government stated that the parents,
spouses, or close relatives of the long-term suffering patient can make a plea
to the high court seeking permission for euthanasia. The Supreme court
would then set up a meeting with the benches to decide on it. The bench in turn
would later appoint a committee of 3 renowned doctors around the world and, seek
their advice on this matter, whether to go ahead with the process of euthanasia or not.
Practicing euthanasia in India is still
not sure, however, the question of withdrawing the artificial life
support system only for a cardio-pulmonary function that too after the brain
death shall be decided only by the team of expert doctors and not by the physician.
Not to forget, that India is a country
of various diversity across religious groups, educational status, and
cultures, so in this background, the debate on euthanasia legal in India still
persists, since there is also a law that punishes individuals who try to
commit suicide.

Beautiful! Very informative.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think this practise is quite helpful for those suffering tremendous pain, but there are also many against the same practise. So it should be the person’s or family’s opinion in the end, for their good, whether or not to follow it
Thank you :)
DeleteBut anyways its always a debatable topic...
