PART 1 : Working With The Mind (INTROSPECTION)
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”(Anonymous)
Introspection is examining one’s own conscious thoughts and feelings. To put across in a simple way introspection is also known as the self-analysis of an individual. It is related to one’s self-reflection and self-discovery which is matched with external observation.
Introspection can be like sitting alone in a room and reflecting on one’s thoughts and feelings or discussing with a counselor. Through these practices, people can observe, and study their likes and dislikes or can also notice their thoughts on a particular subject.
Introspective knowledge is also often held to be more immediate or direct than sensory knowledge. (According to Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)
During the past years, psychologists evolved the term introspection into two different terms. They are popularly known as self-reflection and self-rumination.
Studying oneself, taking time to think about, meditate on, evaluate and give serious thought about our behaviors, motivation, and emotions all come under “ Self reflection”. In short, it’s serious thought about one's character and actions.
Whereas. “Self-rumination” means, continuously thinking or talking about a particular topic that is depressing and dark and which can be harmful and dangerous to our mental health.
Here I would like to mention about technology also has an effect on weak minds like the voice of the dead which is now available in the upcoming electronic gadgets. For example :-Amazon Alexa which is now introducing of reviving the voice of the dead family members instead of the voice of Alexa. At present, AI is getting developed at such a rapid rate/pace that a mother got reunited with her dead daughter who died in 2016 due to blood cancer through virtual reality. (Gravitas Wion News channel 27th August)
What is the point of telling “move on in life” when AI is making people go back to the dark past and have the problem of self-rumination?
Anyways, AI isn’t always wrong but reviving the dead can be creepy and create problems in one’s life such as dealing with a weak mind, going into depression, hallucinating the dead, having schizophrenia, and other death-leading problems...
The whole purpose of introspecting oneself...
Introspection gains emotional awareness. It is a process in which we consider our personality and how it impacts the lives of others. It also helps us understand ourselves better. The value of introspection or examining oneself creates clarity to work on his/her weakness and convert it into his/her strength.
The term “introspection” quote-unquote was first introduced by William Wundt a German psychologist in the year 1879. He believed that introspection leads a way to better actions of an individual. He also says that introspection is not a kind of report but a description of various life experiences of a person. However, the goal of introspection is to know or learn about basic building blocks of experience, thoughts, and feelings which are later combined to give us confidence every day.
Let me end my note with a quote from Carl Jung (Swiss psychiatrist)
“ YOUR VISIONS WILL BECOME CLEAR ONLY WHEN YOU LOOK INTO YOUR OWN HEART”
